This is the catalogue of a most interesting exhibition entirely dedicated to an important but little-known German artist of the 20th century. Born during the Second World War, raised in the Dresden of real socialism and trained as a painter under the dictates of state art, A.R. Penck pursued a formal research that moves towards the concept of the reproducibility of the work of art. Within the space of the canvas, his intention was to give \u201ca physical representation of social systems\u201d. <\/p>\n\n
Having become a controversial artist and practically forced to emigrate, A.R. Penck left the GDR in 1980 and since then has lived in various European cities, gradually leaving behind the large systematic projects and producing a more eclectic art, also ranging into the fields of sculpture and music.
