The Museum of the History of Science “Galileo” in Florence has completed an extraordinary project to popularise science. This is the virtual exhibition of the ‘Mappamondo di Fra Mauro’, a monumental world map dating back to around 1450.
It is one of the most extraordinary collections of geographical and cartographic knowledge prior to the discovery of America. The world map measures 230×230 cm and shows a meticulous cartographic reconstruction of the Earth and a total of 3000 cartouches containing text, with toponyms and accurate descriptions of cities and regions.
Our translators produced the Arabic translation of the exhibition, including both the presentation texts and the historical texts taken from the world map, which are available to visitors for reading as well as in audio form.
On our blog you will soon find an interview with Hakam, coordinator of the Arabic translation.
